Annual meeting of the Deanery for Britain and Ireland

The annual meeting of the clergy and presidents of the Church Councils in Great Britain and Ireland was held on March 31st, 2023, at St. Sava's Church in London. His Eminence the Right Reverend Dositej, Bishop of Britain and Scandinavia, presided over the Divine Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts, with the following co-celebrants: Archimandrite Stefan (Ponjarac), parish priest in Oxford, Very Reverend Dragan Lazic, Bishop's vicegerent for the Deanery of Britain and Ireland and dean of St. Sava's Church in London, Very Reverend Boris Medak, parish priest in Derby, and Very Reverend Mladen Gardovic, parish priest in Dublin.

Before the Liturgy all clergy and presidents of the Church Councils in the Deanery of Britain and Ireland partook in the Holy Sacrament of Confession, which, by blessing of Bishop Dositej, was presided by Very Reverend Milun Kostic, a retired priest from London. At the end of the Liturgy, Bishop Dositej addressed all present with a homily on the importance of faith and feats in the life of Christians.

After the Liturgical celebration a meeting of all the parish priests and presidents of Church Councils was held, presided by His Eminence Bishop Dositej. Main topics of focus during the meeting were the situation in parishes and church municipalities, with a view of how to improve the liturgical and community life for parishioners. Challenges faced by the mission of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Britain and Ireland was another key point of discussion. At the end of the meeting, Bishop Dositej thanked all present for their participation and wished a blessed end to the Great Fast and a happy feast of the Resurrection of Christ.

V. Rev. Dragan Lazic

Abbot of the Hilandar monastery in St Sava church in London

On Sunday, February 12th, 2023, on the feast of the Three Holy Hierarchs, in St. Sava's Church in London, the Divine Liturgy was presided by the Most Reverend Archimandrite Methodius, abbot of the Hilandar monastery, and co-celebrated by Archimandrite Stefan (Ponjarac), priest of the Oxford parish, protopresbyter-stavrophore Dragan Lazic, the Bishop's vicegerent for Britain and Ireland and dean of St. Sava's Church, protopresbyter-stavrophore Milun Kostic, protopresbyter-stavrophore Radomir Acimovic, and protopresbyter Georgije Kuzemko from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate), Hilandar monk - hierdeacon Nectarios and deacon Zivko Kovanovic from London.

The church was full of faithful who gathered on this feast day to receive blessings from Father Methodius and hear his sermon. At the end of the Divine Liturgy, the dean of the church, Father Dragan Lazic, thanked Father Methodius for his visit and welcomed him on behalf of the parish of St. Sava in London. Subsequently, Father Methodius addressed the faithful with a sermon in which he spoke about the Three Holy Hierarchs, as well as the theme of repentance which permeates the Gospel story about the prodigal son, given that we are in the preparatory weeks before the Great Fast. He emphasised the need for a prayerful feat in our spiritual life and regular attendance at services, all in order to unite with Christ in the Holy Mystery of Communion as worthily and regularly as possible.

After the Divine Liturgy, Father Methodius presented all those gathered with an icon of the Holy Mother of God - Trojerucica - as a blessing from the holy Hilandar monastery.
