New Year's Eve
As in previous years, Kolo Serbian Sisters "Kosovka Devojka" has celebrated Serbian New Year's Eve on the 13th January in the "Bishop Nikolay" hall. The evening started with Vespers in our Church.
Our guests were noble firemen from South Wales of the "Blazing to Serbia" group. They are great friends of Serbian people, who for the past 10 years have taken to Serbia a number of fire engines as well as equipment for our firemen. They also helped many other needy people. Here, in our community they are not well known, so this visit was a good opportunity to introduce these valiant golden hearted and generous "knights" who have done so much for our people for so many years.
This group of people would not have been what they are without Steve Logan, the founder of the group. Mr. Steve Logan was awarded MBE by HRH Elizabeth II in January last year for his humanitarian work in Serbia. Steve and his team were welcomed in the hall "Episkop Nikolay" by the President of the Church Council, Mr Marko Gasic, Father Stefan (Ponjarac), His Excellency Mr Branko Neskovic Ambassador of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Colonel Sasha Perovic, Defence Attache in Serbian Embassy in London, chairwoman and secretary of the Circle of Serbian Sisters: Mrs Mirjana Zivanovic and Mrs Ljubinka Rajic. They all expressed their gratitude to the "Blazing to Serbia" team for their inspiring and selfless work which they did and still do for Serbia.
The celebration went on in a pleasant and happy atmosphere, with good food, Serbian music and lottery full of prizes donated by friends. Serbian New Year is a celebration of Serbian tradition and the time to remember our origins and spiritual side of our Orthodox belief. At midnight, while we were wishing Happy New Year to each other we thought of our future and hoped for a better life for all of us. We prayed that our wishes in 2017, with God's help, will be fulfilled.
