Announcement to all parishioners - 1st July 2020
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
This is to inform all our parishioners that as from Saturday, 4th July 2020, the UK Government will allow the churches to be open to the faithful in order to celebrate the Holy Liturgy.
The Holy Liturgy will be celebrated as per the usual timetable, namely - on Saturdays, Sundays and feast days at 10am. The church will also be open on:
- Mondays to Fridays 9am - 1pm and 6pm - 8pm
- Saturdays 9am - 1pm and 6pm - 8pm
- Sundays 9am - 3pm
Please note that the most we are allowed to have in the church at present is 80 people.
Please check our website for the list of services.
According to the requirements of the British Government to ensure safety during the coronavirus epidemic, when visiting the St Sava Church, the following rules must be taken into account:
- Those parishioners who have symptoms of coronavirus or have been in contact with those who have had the virus are kindly asked to contact their GP and self-isolate.
- Those parishioners who fall into the clinically defined high-risk group should stay at home for the time being.
- Those who are older than 70 should avoid all contact with people around or reduce it to the minimum.
- Those who live far from the church and use public transport should in particular be careful about how they protect themselves. If possible, they should use another mode of transport.
Inside the church, one should do the following:
- Disinfect hands upon entering the church
- Observe the mandatory safe distance of 1.5 metres (this does not apply to members of the same family)
- Pay attention when buying and lighting candles
- Move around by following the special floor markings
- Stand on the markings during services
- Parents are responsible for the behaviour of the children during the Liturgy. If it proves too much for them, we ask parents to take out the children to the big hall in order that they relax and quieten. On the way back to the church, please follow the special markings on the floor.
We kindly ask those parishioners who can come to the Liturgy on Saturdays, to do so. This would lessen the crowds on Sundays allowing more people to attend services on both days.
The sacraments of baptism, marriage and funeral services can be organized after the 4th July with up to 30 people present.
These restrictions are to take place until the UK Government introduces new laws and regulations.
